The staircases in the California State Capitol Building had been removed in the 1906s when a modernization took place. A flight of the original stairs were found in a nearby church. This served as a master to recreate the original design from 1860. In order to restore the Capitol Building to its former glory, twelve flights of these staircases had to be recreated. Bob read about this dilemma in the newspaper, and offered his services. He recreated the carvings for all of the newel posts, and was also asked to replicate missing interior trim and furniture elements.
